The job I would be very interested in becoming is a concept artist.
Concept: An idea for something new. Art: The use of imagination to express ideas and feelings.(Oxford Learners Dictionary)
Conceptual Art: Art in which the idea which the work of art represents is considered to be the most important thing about it. (Oxford Learners Dictionary)
Conceptual Art: A non-representational form of art which sees it’s purpose as the creation of ideas. The artistic object, as such, is not the finished work, but the idea it provokes in the audience.( Oxford Critical Theory Dictionary)
The three significant words in the meaning above are skills that would be needed, but are they very similar?
Creativity relies on imagination and imagination deals with ‘unreal’ thoughts that are free from the confines of reality which would give me free reign to imagine the unknown!
“Creativity relies on imagination, the conscious representation of what is not immediately present to the senses”. (Authentic Happiness, Penn University).
My creativity could be used in a number of ways in this job not only to make but to solve problems, make decisions and link and combine ideas, it is sometimes known as divergent thinking and can be used to generate many ideas in an emergent fashion. The first head in the diagram below is me!

Imagination and creativity together are a powerful combination. To make or create something in 2d or 3d or a concept is inventing something new and I believe is more important today than at any moment in time, “The only way anything has ever been invented or created is because one person saw a picture in his mind.” (Byrne 2006 p.72), as in the future technology could replace our jobs and open up the creation of different jobs. “Many young people today will be working in jobs that do not exist,” (All Party Parliamentary Group For Education, 2017)
My influencing style in my work would hopefully be inspirational, to explore exciting possibilities and providing my clients a shared sense of belief in my concept. As I am looking towards my future in this field I think that this employment could open new ways of working. “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” (Albert Einstein)

Fig 2: The future world exhibition
Come with me and you'll be
In a world of pure imagination
Take a look and you'll see
Into your imagination
We'll begin with a spin
Travelling in the world of my creation
What we'll see will defy explanation
(Bricusse and Newley, 1971, track 5, verse 1)
These lyrics are from Roald Dahls Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory film in which he invents a magical world from his imagination and think sums what I believe is significant now. Concepts, inventions, designs, creations are what is going to shape the future workforce and make the invisible real.
